Hurt on the Job? Workers’ Comp

Workers’ compensation is designed to cover your work injury. If you are an injured worker, the first thing you should do is notify your employer and make sure that an accident report is filed with the appropriate personnel of your employer. Even if your injuries are minor, you should still report the injury. Workers’ compensation laws are very specific when it comes to documentation. Failure to report the work injury may hinder your workers’ compensation claim should your injuries become problematic later.

If you are in need of medical assistance, you should let your employer know at that time. Once you have notified your employer of your work-related injury and need for medical assistance, your employer should refer you to a doctor who will treat you under the workers’ compensation insurance plan. If your employer fails to refer you to a medical facility, you can see your own doctor. However, you must first make sure to ask your employer.
